FAQ's 

1) What is Zumba®?

Zumba® is an aerobic fitness program created by Miami-based dancer and choreographer Beto Perez.  It is inspired by Latin dance.  Zumba® is Spanish slang for "to move fast and have fun"

2) What should I wear to a Zumba® class?

Comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement.  Shoes should be comfortable with plenty of cushion and lateral support. The recommended shoes should have little tread (this allows for ease of pivotal/rotational movements).  A light-treaded cross-training shoe is suitable whereas running shoes or cross trainers may have too much tread to allow for side-to-side movement.

3) What Should I Take To A Zumba® Class?

A towel and a bottle of water.

4) Do I have to be fit to attend Zumba®?

No, you don’t. The classes are designed for everybody to work at their own fitness level and ability.  If you have any health problems or concerns, you should contact your GP for advice before attending. You will need to complete a PAR-Q Health questionnaire at your first class. You can download a questionnaire below to bring with you, or for your child to bring, or forms are available at each class.

5) I haven't exercised in a while, will I still be able to keep up?

Go at your own pace. The class is structured so that the beginner and more advanced level students can work at the same time. Everyone in class is coming from different fitness and health backgrounds.

6) What if I can't follow the steps at first?

The great thing about Zumba® is that there are few rules: just dance a little, laugh a little, sweat a lot, and keep moving! Just have fun with this class. Each class you take builds on another, with time and practice, you will pick up the moves, and learn to anticipate new moves!

5) What are the benefits of Zumba®?

Zumba® will get your heart pumping and increase your endurance - you'll have more energy and burn fat. The moves will work your core (abs, back and hips) to strengthen and define them. Besides the physical benefits, Zumba® is a "feel good" workout, not a dreaded chore - the music is motivating and fun, you'll leave feeling happy!

6) What if I can’t dance?

You don’t have to be able to dance to take part in a Zumba® Class. The routines are basic steps and are easy to learn.  I will show you how to perform each of the steps to gain the maximum benefit.

7) Is Zumba® good for weight loss?

Zumba® is an excellent fitness choice, the routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Many experts believe that mixing cardio intervals with resistance training maximises caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. Zumba® mixes effective body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow, fun dance steps.

8) Am I too old to attend Zumba®?

My Zumba® classes are suitable for 12 years upwards and you are never too old to start!  The class for 10 - 16 years olds is specific for that age group so that they can enjoy Zumba® with a class of friends of their own age. However, if you have any injuries or medical conditions, you should seek medical advice before attending a class. You will need to complete a PAR-Q Health questionnaire at your first class.
